Professional keyword research is the cornerstone of any true search engine marketing campaign. I begin all of my campaigns with in depth keyword research. Once you have signed up with me, the first thing I do is send you a list of researched keywords and phrases which have a proven searching audience. Wordtracker is my primary keyword research tool. Every true SEO (search engine optimizer) subscribes to Wordtracker!
The Overture Keyword Suggestion Tool is a fairly good tool, especially if you have no money for Wordtracker access. However, this tool is limited, and SEO’s know that the search numbers are skewed, but I use it sometimes in conjunction with Wordtracker and as an alternative keyword tool.
Google Keyword Sandbox allows me to access the Google AdWords keyword suggestion tool; a database of known phrases that are bid on for Google Pay Per Click bidding. Running some of these suggested phrases through Wordtracker can be very revealing.
Keyword Live is a free tool by AnalogX that allows you to calculate what keywords are the most popular from several popular search engines – in realtime.
AnalogX also has a great, free Keyword Density Analyzer (KDA) that is useful if you know how to reverse engineer top positioned Web sites. Get better search engine placement by looking at your webpages the same way they do.
These tools are all at your disposal too. However, getting the right keywords is only the beginning. Where keyword research leaves off, skilled implementation, SEO training and SEM experience picks up.
It is imperative that this research be done and done correctly so that we market to the right keywords. Being #1 for a keyword that no one is searching for is tantamount to being #10,000 for a competitive and relevant phrase.
