In business, the most overlooked prospects are usually your existing clients!
Back in the 80’s I used to read a lot of self improvement and empowerment books. One of my favorite authors was Zig Ziglar. In one of his books he tells the story of Joe Gerard, a car salesman from Southern California who just happened to be in the Guinness Book of World Records. Joe held the record as the most successful salesman in history. I think he sold like almost 30,000 cars not counting any fleet sales. 30,000 individual cars, think about that for a second…
I ended up buying Joe Gerard’s book and in it he tells how every day, all day long, he had buyers lined up 4-6 deep outside of his office to buy a new car. The other salesmen were out working the lot while Joe relaxed inside in his air conditioned office, making sale after sale, day after day, year after year. Joe said that his most powerful secret to his huge success was that he habitually sent out cards to his past clients. He would send them holiday cards, anniversary cards and birthday cards, to everyone who ever bought a car from him. His clients would never consider buying another car from anyone else! He used to tell people waiting in line, sometimes for hours, to see him, “thank you for you patience and remember, the longer you have to wait, the better deal I’m going to give you.” That is phenomenal!
For many years I have coached my clients regarding this story and advising they gleen and prosper from the story of Joe Gerard. Almost every sales, marketing and service business in the world can set themselves apart from their competition this way. Who wouldn’t appreciate a greeting card, expressing gratitude from someone they’ve done business with, or are considering doing business with? The grinch maybe?
This is one bit of advice that few of my clients have actually acted on. Yet I feel it is such an important practice. Recently I found a ready made solution to this problem. I mean, it is so inconvenient and untimely to go to the store, pick out the right card from hundreds on display, address an envelope, find a stamp and get it mailed off. But what if you could do it easily from home and even make your own custom cards to send out? What if you could do it in 100th the time for 1/2 the cost? Sounds like a win win right?
I agree. Recently I have added this service to my business, partly for my own communication needs and partly for the convenience and benefit of my clients. I bought a Send Out Cards marketing distributorship this year and I’d love to tell you more about it. If you would like to know more about this incredible green and Eco-freindly product and stellar service and technology, have a look at my very short Send Out Cards promotional video.
